To use Gem, the following technical requirements must be met.

Account access and setup

Personal computer

You can only complete a limited number of actions in Gem on mobile, as described in Gem ATS: Mobile support.

We recommend using Gem on a computer, where you can complete all actions described in this Help Center.

Email account

A business Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 email is required to join Gem.

A list of required permissions, and the reasons why they’re required, is available in Sending email on behalf of (SOBO).

Google Workspace

Only business accounts on Google Workspace are supported. Personal Gmail accounts are not supported unless they’re upgraded to a business domain with email on Gmail.

You can’t use an alias or Google Group email address.

This allows Gem to integrate with the account and request for the appropriate access permissions to use our features.

Microsoft 365

Business accounts on Microsoft 365 are supported. This includes various domain types such as Office 365 US Government, GCC (Government Community Cloud High), and GCC High.

Other email providers

If you use an email provider outside of Google or Microsoft or have additional questions about our permissions, please contact us at support@gem.com for assistance.

Gem does not support personal email accounts, including @yahoo.com or personal @gmail.com addresses.

Gem access

In some organizations, access to third-party applications like Gem may be blocked. If you encounter an error stating that consent is required or you need approval from an administrator to sign in, contact your IT team for assistance.

For teams on Office 365, we have the following guidance on how to configure Gem in Azure: Configuring consent for Gem in Microsoft Office 365.

For teams using Google Workspaces, Gem can be added to the list of trusted apps.

Receiving emails

To receive email notifications from Gem, your organization’s email server must allow receipt of messages that are sent from *@gem.com.

Supported browsers

The Gem website and extension works best in Google Chrome. For more information, see What browsers does Gem support?

Gem Chrome extension

Having the Gem extension installed is required as part of our integration with your ATS. It’s also useful for sourcing, since you can quickly add candidates into Gem and send them outreach from it.

You can get the Gem extension from the Chrome Web Store.

If you can’t add the Gem Chrome extension, contact your IT team or system administrator.

📘

If you don’t have an ATS, or do not intend on using Gem for sourcing, you can skip this.

Gem extension permissions

Here are the specific permissions needed to use the Gem extension:

  • webRequest
  • activeTab
  • tabs
  • webNavigation
  • storage
  • downloads
  • cookies
  • management
  • scripting

Network

The Gem website uses the HTTPS protocol and Port 443 must be open in your firewall configuration. If you can access our website at https://gem.com, you can use the Gem web app. If you have trouble with this, contact your IT team or network administrator for assistance.

Cookies

To keep you signed into the Gem platform, Gem uses cookies and third-party cookies must be enabled in Google Chrome. Gem’s cookies are saved under gem.com and www.gem.com. You can follow these steps to review your cookie settings: Allowing third-party cookies

Integrations

Gem is able to integrate with a variety of platforms (i.e. Greenhouse, Lever, Calendly, etc.) and in order to set these integrations up, you will also need an account under the platform that you wish to integrate Gem with. Depending on your Gem feature set and ATS, the ability to generate an API key within your ATS may also be required during the integration process.

  • Google
