If your sidebar is not loading correctly, or you find that integration with your email client or ATS is not functioning correctly, it’s possible that third-party cookies are not enabled or have been disabled. Some symptoms that could suggest you should check your cookie settings are:

  • The Gem extension says “Gem needs cookie access”
  • The Gem extension keeps asking you to sign in
  • The Gem extension isn’t connecting to your ATS

In order to take full advantage of Gem, including integration with ATSes, and email, your browser should be set to allow third-party cookies. Don’t worry, it’s easy to check if you have this enabled.

Allowing third-party cookies by default

You can allow third-party cookies by default.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome
  2. At the top right, click More → Settings
  3. Click Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
  4. Select an option: Allow third-party cookies
    • Make sure that “Allow sites to save and read cookie data” is ON
    • Make sure that “Block third-party cookies” is OFF
  5. If this doesn’t resolve your issue, the next step would be to clear out your Clearing your cache

Allowing third-party cookies on gem.com

If you block third-party cookies by default, you can still allow them on gem.com.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome
  2. At the top right, click More More → Settings
  3. Click Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
  4. Next to “Allowed to use third party cookies,” click Add
  5. Enter gem.com
    • To create an exception for an entire domain, insert [*.] before the domain name. For example, [*.]gem.com
  6. Select Add

Another method is to click on the toggle button on the left in the Google Chrome search bar and toggle ON “Embedded content” for gem.com:
