Overview
Sources help your team track where applications come from, so you can compare recruiting channels and measure ROI.
Default sources
Gem ATS comes with the following sources by default:
- Company career site
- Gem Sequence
- Github
- Indeed
- Internal candidate
- LinkedIn Basic Jobs
- Referral
These default sources can’t be edited or removed, though you can disable them if they’re not relevant to your hiring process. You can also add additional sources to capture other candidate channels.
Requirements
- Your team must use Gem ATS. For more information, see Getting started: Gem ATS overview and configuration.
- You must be an Admin in Gem to manage source settings. For more information, see Gem access types and permissions.
Add a custom source
You can add custom sources to provide additional options beyond the Gem default sources.
You can use the Source type field to group the custom source with the default source it’s related to. For example, if you’re adding a Spring break career fair custom source, you can set the Source type to Event or University.
To add a custom source:
- Select your account at the bottom of the main sidebar, then select the Admin settings option in the dropdown.
- Select the Gem ATS header.
- Select the Applications tab.
- Select the Sources header.
- Select the + New source button.
- Enter a name for the source in the Source name field.
- Select a type from the Source type dropdown. This groups the source into the correct category with related sources, such as event, referral, and more.
- Select the Save button.
The page updates with your new source displayed. Your team can now select this source when adding applications, setting up forms, and more.
Edit a source
You can only edit custom sources. You can’t edit default sources.
To edit an existing source:
- Select your account at the bottom of the main sidebar, then select the Admin settings option in the dropdown.
- Select the Gem ATS header.
- Select the Applications tab.
- Select the Sources header.
- Select the pencil icon to the right of the source you’d like to edit.

- In the Edit source pop-up, select the fields displayed to add or update them.
- When you’re done editing the source, select the Save button.
The page updates with your updated source.
Disable or enable a source
Disabling a source removes it from the list of sources in your Admin settings and updates the Enabled setting to OFF. Disabled sources can’t be selected from Source drop-downs in Gem.
You can enable a disabled source at any time. You can enable and disable default sources as well as custom sources.
To disable or re-enable an existing source:
- Select your account at the bottom of the main sidebar, then select the Admin settings option in the dropdown.
- Select the Gem ATS header.
- Select the Applications tab.
- Select the Sources header.
- Select the Enabled toggle to the right of the source you want to disable or enable. Setting the toggle to OFF disables the source; setting the toggle to ON re-enables the source.

The page updates with the source status updated.
