How to Free up Hard Disk Space on your Mac

Checking your disk space

  1. Click the Apple icon in the top left and select“About this Mac”
  2. Click on“More Info and then locate the“Storage Settings”

Removing Gem Team Folder contents from your local machine

The Gem Team Folder may be inadvertently taking up a lot of hard drive space. To safely remove files from your local computer while ensuring they stay in the Team Folder you can follow these steps.

  1. Hit Preferences → Navigate to the“Sync” settings in the dropbox application on your Mac.
  2. Hit the“Select Folders” to select which folders you want to sync to your Mac

Make sure“Select all” is NOT checked.

You can select which folders in the team drive to sync locally with your computer. In this example I have the“IT” folder synced but I probably don’t need 1.2 GB of GIFS downloaded onto my computer.

Click“Update” and you’ll see the contents of the folder disappear and only show the folders that you have chosen to sync.

You can always still navigate to the Gem Team folder by opening a new tab in your web browser and access it via — https://www.dropbox.com/home/Gem%20Team%20Folder
