Overview
Gem ATS provides you with an automatically-generated job board to host all of your open jobs, which you can configure to suit your organization’s branding and integrate with your website (and third-party sites) in various ways. This article covers how to configure your job board, and the various methods for integrating your job board into your site.
You can also create and customize an internal job board for employees of your organization to use. See Gem ATS: Internal job boards for more details.
Requirements
- Your team must use Gem ATS.
- You must be a Gem Admin.
Configuration options
All of the job board configuration options are available in the Job boards & posts section of your Gem ATS admin settings.
- Select your account at the bottom of the main sidebar, then select the Admin settings option in the dropdown.
- Select the Gem ATS header.
- Select the Job boards & posts tab.
Your job board is active by default, and you can start using it straight away either hosted via jobs.gem.com or embedded into your website. See the Integrate your job board section below for more information about the different integration options, including Gem’s Job Board API.
Customize your job board
If you’re using either the hosted or embedded integration options, you can use the options available in the Customize your job board to configure how you want your job board to look. As you’re making amendments, you will see your changes reflected in real time in the preview panel on the right-hand side of the screen.
- Select the Customize your job board section to expand it.
- Amend the available elements as desired.
Element | Description |
Job board URL | All job boards are hosted on jobs.gem.com, but you can customize the specific path. Choose any name that is not already in use. |
Page title | This is what displays in the user’s browser tab when viewing the job board page. It’s not visible elsewhere on the page itself. |
Colors | You can set the colors for the page background, body text, and accent (this is used for job titles and arrow icons). Set these colors using either the color pickers provided or the hex codes for the colors you want to use. |
Company logo | Upload an image here to use as your company logo on the page. |
Intro text | This text sits at the top of the page just underneath the logo, so you can use it if you want to provide any additional information to users. You can edit this text using standard formatting tools to set emphasis, colors, alignment, etc. |
- Select View job board to preview the page.
- Select the Save & publish button to apply changes.
If you make any subsequent changes to your job board URL, previously shared links will no longer work. Be sure to update external references accordingly, including the link you’re using if you’re embedding the job board into your website..
External job post settings
Some additional configuration options are available in the External job post settings section, allowing you to adjust what displays on your job posts.
- Select the External job post settings section to expand it.
Element | Description |
Show job posting start date | Uncheck this if you would prefer not to show the date each job post was first published. |
Include intro content on job posts | Choose whether or not to include some additional content which will appear between the job title and the job description. Toggling this to ON reveals a text field where you can input whatever you’d like for this content, and format accordingly. This is useful if you want to include standardized, company-specific information on every job post. |
Include outro content on job posts | As above, but displays between the job description and the application form. |
Note that both the intro and outro content settings apply by default to all job posts. They can, however, be disabled on individual job posts.
- Select the Save & close button to apply changes.
Integrate your job board
There are three options for creating a job board in Gem ATS, and the right option for your organization will depend on your goals and technical requirements.
- Using the job board hosted by Gem;
- Embedding a job board into your website;
- Using the Gem Job Board API to create a custom page.
Use the hosted job board
The quickest and simplest way to start using your job board, requiring no technical knowledge, is to link out to the auto-generated URL from anywhere in your website.
This version of your job board will be hosted on jobs.gem.com, however you can customize the rest of the URL. By default, Gem will automatically populate the URL with your organization’s name - we recommend keeping this as part of the URL for the purpose of clarity.
- Select the Customize your job board section to expand it.
- Change the second part of the URL if needed.
- Select the Copy URL button.
- Use this URL anywhere you link out to your job board, or share it with your web developer.
For an example of a hosted job board, check out the Excelity careers page.
Embed the job board on your website
If you want to embed your Gem job board on your company website, a Notion page, or another platform, you can generate the necessary embed codes in Gem that you can copy and paste into your website. Once embedded, the job board will display using all of the customization you applied earlier.
This option requires access to your website’s code in order to drop in the code snippets.
- Select the Embed job board section to expand it.
- Copy each of the provided codes and share them with your web developer or site administrator.
- Alternatively, if you have access to your website to do this yourself, we recommend adding the first snippet into the <head> section of whichever page you want to embed the job board into, and the second snippet into the <body> section.
For an example of an embedded job board, check out the Tropic careers page.
Build a custom job board with the Job Board API
Gem’s Job Board API allows you to generate a list of live job posts that you can embed on a web page of your choice, and customize however you want.
This requires familiarity with RESTful APIs, but allows a developer to completely customize what to display on the job board, and how jobs are filtered. You can also use this method to include a tracking pixel on your job board.
See The Job Board API for details of how to use the Job Board API to create a custom job board.
For an example of a job board integrated using the API method, check out the Gem careers site.
Third party sites
If you want to post jobs on LinkedIn, Indeed or X Hiring, you can automate the process using XML feeds. For LinkedIn you will require your LinkedIn Company ID, while for Indeed you’ll need your contact email address.
- Select the XML feeds section to expand it.
- To generate a LinkedIn XML feed:
- Enter your LinkedIn company ID.
- Select the Save & generate feed button.
- Select the Copy LinkedIn XML feed URL button.
- To generate an Indeed XML feed:
- Enter your Indeed contact email address.
- Select a Department.
- Select the Save & generate feed button.
- Select the Copy Indeed XML feed URL button.
- To generate an X Hiring feed:
- Select the Copy X Hiring XML feed URL button.
