Overview
You can add a new user to Gem by having them sign up with their work email address, or by inviting them from your Admin settings.
Sign up via gem.com
The quickest way to add a new user is to have them complete the following steps.
- Go to the Gem website: https://gem.com.
- Select the Login button.
- Complete the sign-in process using your work email address. The email domain must match your team’s domain.
Invite a new user
Only Admins can invite new users to your Gem account. To do so, complete the following steps.
- Select your account at the bottom of the main sidebar, then select the Admin settings option in the dropdown.
- Select the Users & permissions header.
- Under the Team members header, select the Invite User to Gem button.
- Enter the new user’s email address. The email domain must match your team’s domain.
The user receives an email with steps to join. Have them complete the steps in that email.
Respond to a review request
Users who are not in your Gem account may also join when they receive and respond to a review request.
Steps for users to join Gem via the review request email:
- In the Reviews request email, select the provided link to open Gem.
- Sign in using your work email address. The email domain must match your team’s domain.
Things to note
- Allowlist: If your team has access to our Allowlist, new users won’t be able to sign in until an Admin has added their email address to the list. Note that the Allowlist is case-sensitive (i.e. Your.Name@company.com will be interpreted differently than your.name@company.com) and users must be added with their exact email address.
- User Access: By default, new users are added to Gem with Standard access. Admins can edit their access level from the Team settings page. Alternatively, Gem Admins can change the default access that new users who sign up will have in advance from the Team settings page. More info on User Access levels can be Admins getting started guide.
- SSO (single sign-on): By default, Gem will use either Google or Microsoft OAuth to sign users in. If your team uses an identity provider (ex. Okta or OneLogin) to log into apps, users can still sign into Gem via the default Google or Microsoft login flow, but going through your identity provider instead will take some additional steps to configure. Gem also supports JIT (just in time) provisioning to help new users get signed in, as well.
