Overview
After you connect GeMCP, you can ask your AI assistant questions about the Gem data you already have permission to access.
The best prompts are specific enough to point GeMCP toward the right data, but conversational enough that you can keep refining the answer. Start with a real recruiting question, then ask follow-up questions the same way you would with a teammate.
Requirements
Before trying these prompts, make sure:
- GeMCP is connected in your AI assistant.
- You are signed in to the correct Gem account.
- You have access in Gem to the candidates, Jobs, Projects, analytics, or dashboards you want to ask about.
- Your organization allows the use of your selected AI assistant with Gem data.
Write effective prompts
The best GeMCP prompts include enough context for AI to understand what you are looking at and what you want to do next.
When you are not sure what to ask, give AI two things:
- Context: what you are looking at, trying to understand, or responsible for
- Outcome: what you want to decide, create, confirm, or do next
Then ask AI to follow up with questions before answering.
Starter prompt:
I am looking at [context] and trying to [outcome]. Ask me any follow-up questions you need before you answer.
A few tips:
- Swap in your own candidates, roles, Projects, teams, and date ranges.
- Start with one role, candidate, or Project before asking for broader analysis.
- Ask follow-up questions to narrow, reformat, or validate the answer.
- If a broad question returns too much, ask for a simpler summary or a specific table.
- For analytics and dashboard-style questions, make sure your Gem account has access to the relevant product features.

- Review the candidates in [Project] against the Job description and provide a yes/maybe/no read with reasoning.

- Summarize where things stand across all the roles I am hiring for this quarter.
- What are the top risks or bottlenecks in this pipeline?

- Across my open requisitions, who are the strongest candidates I have not followed up with recently?
- List silver medalists for [role] who received positive feedback, but we did not end up hiring.
Analyze reporting, analytics, and trends
Use these prompts when you want a higher-level view of performance, trends, or recruiting operations.
- What is our average time to fill for [role] this quarter compared to last quarter?
- What is our offer acceptance rate by department, and how has it trended?
- Which sourcing channels produced the most hires over the last six months?
- Show me this quarter's hires joined with their opening and offer information.
- Build a chart summarizing pipeline trends for [role/team] that I can bring to a leadership review.
Review sourcing and outreach performance

- Which of my active outreach Sequences have the highest reply rates, and what do the top performers have in common?
- Which sourcing channels are producing the strongest candidates for [role/team]?
- What outreach patterns are working best for [role]?
Create digests and summaries
Use these prompts when you want repeatable summaries you can review or share.
- Build me a weekly hiring digest for Monday mornings, including new candidates, stage moves, upcoming interviews, and offers out.
