Customers may ask about the data collection disclaimer that is delivered to Chrome users by Google when they are adding the Gem Chrome extension. We can respond with the following (feel free to edit to make it better for customer communication):

The list you are referencing is a standard Chrome data collection disclaimer and the examples under each category are provided by Google and are for illustrative purposes only. Here is a summary of how each category applies to Gem:

  1. Personally identifiable information —every Gem user (i.e. every GDIT recruiter) is registered in Gem with their name and email address, which we display in the product, e.g. to show who took an action or left a comment.
  2. Personal communication —Gem sends, receives, and collects email communication with candidates as part of the core functionality of the product.
  3. Location —IP addresses are logged as part of normal operation of the product and stored for a limited period of time to allow for technical investigations. Location is also used to provide location-specific functionality to international customers.
  4. Web history —Gem collects the candidate profiles that a recruiter visits on various recruiting websites as part of the core functionality of the product (e.g. to show that another recruiter has viewed a particular candidate’s profile recently)
  5. User activity —Gem collects user activity on Gem products and recruiting websites as part of the core functionality and to facilitate product development. Gem doesn’t perform any keystroke logging.
  6. Website content —Gem collects website content as part of the core functionality of the product to track interactions with candidates on various recruiting websites.

The Gem Chrome extension is a key part of the Gem product that facilitates the seamless integration and improved recruiter workflows across a number of websites recruiters use to find and interact with candidates. The extension is limited to only access websites relevant to the recruiting process and not any other websites that users visit.
