This article explores what you can do in the case that you weren't able to garner all the information we parsed out in a candidates resume or where Gem hasn't been able to pre-populate tokens.

In the case where we aren't able to pre-populate a token because it isn't filled out, it will show as blank in the sequence and template. Of course, we will still want to populate the token with some content to make sure our sequences make sense and in these cases we can do that by using the "|" character in our sequences.

For example, when using the "Reason" field in sequences, there may be scenarios where you would not have filled out this field but would like to make sure that token is populated. In those cases, when you are building that sequence, insert a "|" character into the token between the text of the token and the "}}" brackets.

Here is an example:

In the cases where there is a value for that token, Gem will default to that value, but in the case where you haven't inputted a value, we will default to the value on the right of the "|" character.

This allows you to make sure values are populated even when they aren't filled out.
